Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland
Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited delivers quality aged, retirement and community care services to the communities of Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg, and Yeppoon. The Mercy Health and Aged Care Corporate Office is located in Rockhampton.
History of the ministry
The tradition of Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland providing quality and compassionate healthcare services to the people of Central Queensland commenced when the Sisters of Mercy opened the Mater Hospital in Rockhampton in 1915. In 1927 the Mater Hospital in Mackay was opened, followed by the Mater Hospital in Bundaberg in 1946, the Mater Hospital in Yeppoon in 1998 and the Mater Hospital in Gladstone in 1999.
The aged care ministry conducted by Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland commenced in 1940 when the Sisters of Mercy opened Bethany as a residential aged care facility. This was followed by the opening of McAuley Place in 1996 and Leinster Place in 1997. Independent living for the aged is provided by Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland at two Retirement Villages located in Rockhampton, namely The Range Village and Bethany Village.
Today Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland operates three Residential Aged Care Facilities, two Retirement Villages, a Day Respite and Day Therapy Centre, a Day Surgery Unit and a Linen and Food Service.
The Rockhampton Sisters of Mercy Congregation transferred canonical governance of the ministry to Mercy Partners in 2011.
