FEAST OF ST CLARE OF ASSISI, August 12
St Clare (1193 - 1253) was born into one of the wealthy families of Assisi in Italy. She encountered Francis of Assisi, hearing his call to poverty and inner peace.
A year later, she decided to follow in his footsteps by giving up her life of wealth. At Francis’ request she formed a community of women at San Damiano (the Poor Clares).
She spent the next four decades in prayer and contemplation. She was the first woman to write a Rule for religious life (www.spiritualityandpractice.com).
Today, let’s honour Clare by focusing on her prayer "My Lord, I thank you for having created me" and taking time to celebrate those things for which we are grateful in our lives.
