Feast of St Rita of Cascia

21st May 2020

Prayer for St Rita

On May 22, we commemorate the death in 1457 of Rita of Cascia, Patroness of Impossible Causes, who was canonised by Pope Leo XIII on May 24, 1900.

At the end of her life, St Rita of Cascia requested a rose from the garden of her parents’ home. This was an impossible task for the season, but a single brightly-coloured rose was found and this became a symbol of hope in the midst of impossibility.

May the life of St Rita
Inspire us to trust in God
To live in hope
And to work tirelessly for peace and love.

May her Gospel-inspired life
Guide our hearts
Towards acts of compassion
And a belief in the impossible.

St Rita, pray for us.
