All Hallows’ School
All Hallows’ School Ltd is a Catholic day school located in inner-city Brisbane. It offers education to girls and young women from Year 5 to Year 12.
History of the ministry
All Hallows' was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1861, the year of the sisters' arrival in Brisbane and only two years after Queensland separated from New South Wales. As the first secondary school for girls in the infant colony, its history is very much entwined with the history of Queensland and with the evolving nature of education for girls. The school has been at its current location overlooking the city of Brisbane since 1863, its historic buildings standing testament to an earlier pioneering age.
Today, All Hallows' is a modern school catering for students from a wide variety of backgrounds, offering them an extensive range of academic, cultural, and sporting opportunities. In the Mercy tradition, the School also seeks to promote personal growth, including the development of an informed conscience and a commitment to work for social justice in the wider community. It enrols students whose parents/caregivers seek a Catholic education within the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy.
The Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation transferred canonical governance of All Hallows' School to Mercy Partners in April 2013.
