Holy Cross Services

Holy Cross is one of the country’s leading examples of a fully integrated workplace, something of which we are incredibly proud. We offer our services according to our core values of Dignity, Respect, Integrity and Compassion.

We pride ourselves for being an Equal Opportunity Employer and a proactive proponent of providing people with an intellectual disability with the opportunity to gain meaningful employment. Holy Cross Services currently employs around 48 people (approximately 13 per cent of our total workforce) with a disability and we have a goal to grow this to 25 per cent of our workforce by 30 June 2023.

Every December, Holy Cross Services recognises International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD) with a celebration at the Banyo Head Office. Holy Cross celebrates IDPwD by showcasing the work we do across all divisions of Holy Cross Services: acknowledging the achievements of our employees throughout the year, helping to break down disability barriers and celebrating abilities. This event continues to be a great celebration of what makes Holy Cross special.

History of Holy Cross Services

The Holy Cross Laundry at Wooloowin was founded in 1889 by Mother Mary Vincent Whitty and her Sisters of Mercy with a mission to support people with disability and the disadvantaged by providing integrated and inclusive employment opportunities through the provision of high-quality laundry services.

Following relocation to a new, purpose-built laundry site at Banyo in 2014, the last few years have seen Holy Cross achieve a number of milestones including the launch of Holy Cross Cleaning Services, Holy Cross Employment Services and Holy Cross Food Services.

In 2019, Holy Cross Laundry Ltd was renamed Holy Cross Services Ltd to better reflect the diversification and growth of our business and the services we now provided. 2019 also saw Holy Cross celebrate 130 years of continuing service, providing high-quality commercial linen services to South East Queensland healthcare and aged care facilities.

Holy Cross Services today

Holy Cross Services delivers high-quality, professional laundry, food and cleaning and employment solutions.

Holy Cross Laundry – employs more than 220 people and processes more than 6,500 tonnes of laundry per year. Holy Cross has a fleet of eight trucks providing linen services to customers from Gympie to Tugun and west to Toowoomba.

Holy Cross Cleaning – has gone from strength to strength since its commencement and provides 24/7 professional clinical and non-clinical cleaning services to the Mater Hospital South Brisbane campus, Queensland Xray sites, Mercy Super, Mercy Partners and Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane and Herston.

Holy Cross Food ServicesThe Good Cup Café at Adderton opened in March 2020 and is a collaboration between the Brisbane Sisters of Mercy Congregation and Holy Cross Services. The Café provides Holy Cross with a first step into a more significant role in Food Services and enables us to continue to expand the range of employment opportunities we can offer to people of all abilities.

Holy Cross Employment Services – provides an underpinning structure that supports the three operating service areas of Laundry, Cleaning and Food Services. The total number of staff employed at Holy Cross Services has doubled since 2014 and the Employment Services team actively identifies ways to better deliver and enhance support services not only for our staff with special needs but for all of our workforce.

In April 2013, the Sisters of Mercy Brisbane Congregation transferred canonical governance of Holy Cross Services, under the auspices of the Brisbane Mater, to Mercy Partners. In March 2021, Holy Cross Services transferred from Mater Misericordiae Ltd to become a ministry sponsored directly by Mercy Partners.
